There are many benefits to installing CCTV in your shop, office or warehouse. However, you may decide to install this extra layer of security quicker if you knew just how much your unwatched business is at risk.
Imagine this: You’re sleeping soundly in the middle of the night, when all of a sudden the phone rings and wakes you up. The Gardaí are calling to tell you that your business has been broken into and all your hard-earned money has been taken by a group of vandals. They’ve also left your business in a disastrous state. You can hear the guard’s feet crunching on the glass of your shop's front window. Your costly equipment has either been taken or left lying in pieces on the floor. The business that you may have sacrificed a lot of time and money to build has now collapsed.
Paying the Price For Someone Else’s Crimes
What happens when criminals who are scouting for places to target find that your business doesn’t have CCTV? They will likely assume that any valuables in your building won’t be under surveillance either. Proving Without Evidence
CCTV can help deter criminals from breaking into your business. If that doesn’t stop them, then you have video evidence to show Gardaí and your insurance provider regarding the damages or losses caused by these criminals. With any luck, these offenders might even be identified and prosecuted for what they’ve done! However, it’s hard to know what happened if you don’t have the evidence. It takes much longer for criminal investigations to carry out when the evidence has to be collected at the scene before being analysed. This may also mean that insurance providers will take longer to process your claim as they wait for the results.
Keep an Eye When You’re Not There
The crimes committed to your business could potentially be an inside job. You may have a lot of trust in your employees, however, sometimes they might be abusing it when you’re not there. Without CCTV, you’ll be none the wiser if an employee dips their hand into the cash register from time to time. Maybe a customer wants to report an unpleasant interaction with one of your staff but the latter is telling you another side of the story. If it’s a serious incident that occurred while you were away, such as physical or verbal abuse, you won’t know whether to believe your employee or the customer. You can’t hover over every employee to make sure they’re not harming your business in some way.
Without CCTV, you are increasing the risk of your business being robbed or vandalised and staying unaware of any employee misconduct. You can’t be there 24/7.
